British Queen celebrates

Tesco, the largest retailer in Britain, announced a significant increase in pay for its store workers, reflecting the recent hike in the government-mandated minimum wage.

Through an agreement with the shopworkers' union USDAW, Tesco will boost hourly base pay by 9.1%, effective from April.

This adjustment will see hourly wages rise from £11.02 to £12.02, surpassing the forthcoming national living wage set to increase by 9.8% to £11.44 per hour. The company estimates this pay raise will incur a cost of £300 million. Photo by Gerald England, Wikimedia commons.
