As tensions escalate in the Middle East, Russia has issued a stern warning to the United States, cautioning against any military support for Israel's ongoing attacks on Iran.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Wednesday that direct U.S. involvement would "radically destabilize" the region.
Ryabkov specifically warned Washington against backing Israeli strikes, especially those targeting nuclear facilities, which he said had brought the region to the brink of disaster.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made his first public comments since Israel’s surprise offensive began last Friday. Speaking through a televised address, Khamenei vowed that Iran “will never surrender” to outside pressure, warning that any U.S. military action would lead to “irreparable damage.”
“This nation will not surrender to anyone in the face of imposition,” Khamenei said. He criticized U.S. demands and responded to recent remarks by President Donald Trump, who had issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Tehran, calling for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”
Trump had posted on Truth Social that he knew the location of Khamenei but was holding off on a strike—for now—while urging Iran to back down.
U.S. officials said the next 24 to 48 hours are critical for diplomacy. The White House is reportedly weighing military options as it closely monitors Tehran’s response, leaving the door open for a last-minute resolution to avoid further escalation.
Khamenei also condemned Israel’s campaign, calling it a “grave mistake” and vowing that Israel “will be punished.” Photo by Meghas, Wikimedia commons.
