A primary school in Londonderry has been closed following a security alert in the city's Waterside area.

Police were alerted around 10:15 BST on Wednesday to a suspicious package discovered on Limavady Road. In response, a public safety operation was launched, with police cordoning off areas near Heron Way and Nelson Drive. However, roads remain open and residents have not been asked to evacuate.

As a precaution, Ebrington Primary School and Nursery, located nearby, closed for the remainder of the day.

Chief Inspector Cherith Craig of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) acknowledged the disruption caused by the alert, stating, "We understand the level of disruption this incident is causing. However, we are working through the situation as swiftly as possible and appreciate the patience and cooperation of the school community and the wider public." Photo by KeysAMX, Wikimedia commons.
