A new study has identified the most affordable countries for expats in 2025 — and the top spot might just make you consider packing your bags.

The research, conducted by global insurance provider William Russell, compared the cost of essentials like healthcare, rent, transport, food, and utilities across various countries. And the winner?

Vietnam takes the crown as the most budget-friendly country for expats.

Known for its balance of affordability and quality of life, Vietnam has long been a favourite among digital nomads and budget-conscious travellers. From sun-drenched beaches and bustling cities to vibrant street food and rich culture, the country offers a well-rounded lifestyle at a fraction of the cost of life in the UK.

According to the study:

A one-bedroom apartment in Vietnam averages $361/£265 per month.

A three-bedroom apartment typically costs $801/£589 monthly.

Overall, the cost of living is 59% lower than in the UK.

The coastal city of Da Nang is highlighted as the cheapest Vietnamese city for expats, combining seaside charm with a thriving nightlife.
