British Queen celebrates

King Charles is currently enjoying a well-deserved private break in the picturesque Scottish Highlands at the Castle of Mey. Amidst his tranquil retreat, the monarch marked a significant

milestone, surpassing King Edward VIII as the shortest-serving British monarch.

With his reign having surpassed 326 days, Charles has outlasted his uncle Edward's brief time on the throne. Edward's abdication came less than a year into his reign as he sought to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson. The prospect of a divorced woman becoming Queen Consort was deemed unacceptable at the time, and Edward's marriage plans conflicted with his position as head of the Church of England.

Charles' ascension to the throne occurred following Edward's abdication, as he became the next in line after his grandfather, King George VI, who had no direct heirs.

While Charles is no longer the shortest-reigning British monarch, he has surpassed several monarchs who only ruled over England. Notably, Lady Jane Grey's disputed claim to the throne lasted only nine days, while Sweyn Forkbeard, also the King of Denmark, ruled for a mere 40 days before his passing.

During his sojourn in the Scottish Highlands, Charles has been pictured enjoying various activities, seemingly in high spirits throughout his vacation, even braving the August showers with a smile.

Recently, the 74-year-old monarch was spotted in John O'Groats, Caithness, where he inaugurated the 8 Doors Distillery. Adding a touch of Scottish tradition to his outing, King Charles donned a traditional kilt. Following the opening ceremony, he was given a tour of the distillery and had the unique opportunity to fill an American Oak, Pedro Ximénez Hogshead cask before tasting the new make spirit. Later, he engaged with local food producers and explored the market stalls.

The co-founder of 8 Doors Distillery expressed their honor in hosting the King and shared the delight of showcasing their unique distillery to him. They were thrilled to have the opportunity to offer him a glimpse of their whisky industry passion and its connection to the local area.
