London Nautical School, currently under the jurisdiction of Lambeth Council, is in the process of transforming into an academy sponsored by the City of London Corporation, according to a

letter sent to parents by the headteacher and chair of governors.

The school, founded in Rotherhithe over 100 years ago, is planning to join the City of London Academies Trust by September 2024. The decision to explore academy conversion has been ongoing for two years, and the school has identified the City of London Academies Trust as a suitable multi-academy trust that can enhance the educational experience and opportunities for students, staff, and the community.

The trust is sponsored by the City of London Corporation, and London Nautical would become the Square Mile's first academy in Lambeth. Parents will have an opportunity to discuss the proposals at a meeting on 7 February, with a formal consultation period to follow after the half-term break. Photo by Rainer Halama, Wikimedia commons.
