British Queen celebrates

A representative from the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) visited Honduras this week to promote collaboration on clean energy development and support the

country’s energy transition goals.

Mitchell Lloyd, Senior Policy Advisor for International Energy Transition at DESNZ, was in Honduras from 15 to 16 May. During his visit, he held meetings with the Honduran Secretary of Energy, other government officials, private sector representatives, and international financial institutions involved in clean energy initiatives.

The discussions focused on accelerating global and local leadership in the clean energy transition, enhancing international cooperation, and creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth. Key themes included building resilient clean energy supply chains and unlocking jobs in the renewable energy sector.

Honduras has set a target of generating 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2038. The country boasts significant solar potential and has long relied on hydropower as a key energy source.

This engagement aligns with the UK’s broader strategy to lead in clean energy, reduce reliance on volatile fossil fuel markets, and foster job creation in the global clean energy industry. Photo by Denise Clarke, Wikimedia commons.
