British Queen celebrates

Mia Brookes, a 16-year-old snowboarder, has become the first person from Great Britain to win the snowboard slopestyle world championship. She defeated New Zealand's Zoi Sadowski-

Synnott at the Snowboard, Freestyle, and Freeski World Championships held in Georgia to secure the gold medal. Brookes was able to achieve this feat by landing the first Cab 1440 double grab in a women's snowboarding event. She expressed her immense joy by saying that she had never been so happy in her life.

After her first run in Bakuriani, Brookes was in second place with a score of 86.41, behind Sadowski-Synnott's 88.78. However, she decided to attempt a highly complicated four-rotation 1440 switch named after legendary skateboarder Steve Caballero. Her risky decision paid off when the judges awarded her a score of 91.38, securing the gold medal for her. Brookes was ecstatic about her win and said that she was so happy she felt like crying.

Brookes was not able to compete at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics because of her age, but she is already setting her sights on the 2026 Winter Olympics. She also won a silver medal in a World Cup event held in Austria earlier this year.

Sadowski-Synnott attempted to respond to Brookes' win by increasing the difficulty of her final run, but she failed to complete the final section. Miyabi Onitsuka from Japan won the bronze medal with a score of 83.05.

GB Snowsport head coach Pat Sharples was extremely impressed with Brookes' performance and said that what she achieved was next level. He added that although everyone knew that Brookes had the talent, this was her first season on the World Cup circuit and her first World Championship, which made her win even more impressive.

The Snowboard, Freestyle, and Freeski World Championships are being broadcasted live on the BBC Red Button, BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport website, and mobile app. Brookes' historic win will undoubtedly inspire a new generation of snowboarders and young athletes in Great Britain.
